The Field Epidemiology in Action team have a shared mission to strengthen health systems and improve health through field epidemiology. We support the planning, development, and delivery of high impact sustainable field epidemiology and rapid response team training programs in the Pacific. We share our field epidemiology resources with the global FETP community and advocate for inclusive and effective FETPs. Our team comes from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Australia and includes epidemiologists, veterinarians, physicians and researchers who are passionate about making a difference.

7-1-7 Alliance

717 Alliance_logo_RGB.png

The 7-1-7 Alliance is a country-led initiative hosted by Resolve to Save Lives, which provides technical assistance, financial support and a growing, global community of practice to help all countries achieve the 7-1-7 target for outbreak detection and control. The 7-1-7 target sets clear performance standards for three timeliness metrics:

  • 7 days to detect a suspected disease outbreak

  • 1 day to notify relevant public health authorities

  • 7 days to complete early response actions.

Each country’s progress toward the 7-1-7 target makes it better prepared to prevent and stop epidemics and makes the world safer from the next pandemic threat.

The Public Health Division (PHD) is one of 9 divisions in The Pacific Community (SPC) - the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region since 1947. Through PHD’s five technical programmes, addressing Surveillance Preparedness and Response, Laboratory Strengthening, NCD Prevention and Control, Health System Strengthening and Clinical Services, we are committed to SPC’s development goal #3, that “all Pacific people reach their potential and live long and healthy lives.”

SPC has been the focal point for the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PPHSN), a voluntary network of countries and organisations dedicated to the promotion of public health surveillance and appropriate response to the health challenges of 22 Pacific Island countries and territories, since it was created in 1996.
