Visa Information

Visa requirements for Malaysia vary by nationality and length of stay: 

  • Citizens of ASEAN countries: Nationals of all ASEAN countries, except Myanmar, can stay for less than one month without a visa.

  • Citizens of some specific countries: may not need a visa to visit Malaysia, depending on the length of their stay. 

    • Citizens of the United Kingdom: Citizens of the United Kingdom can visit Malaysia for tourism without a visa and stay for up to 90 days. 

    • Citizens of the United States: Citizens of the United States can visit Malaysia for business or social reasons without a visa if their stay is 90 days or less, except for employment.

    • China and India: Nationals of the People's Republic of China and India are EXEMPTED from visa requirements for tourist purposes (Single Entry Visa) when traveling to Malaysia, effective from from December 1, 2023 until December 31, 2026.

    • Other countries that do not need a visa to enter Malaysia for a short stay include: Albania, Algeria, and Andorra. However, travelers from these countries must request entry permission at a port of entry to enter Malaysia.

  • Other countries: Citizens of other countries may need to apply for a visa from the nearest Malaysian diplomatic mission or apply for e-Visa before traveling.

  • Visa application

    To apply for a visa, you can: 

    • Visit a Malaysian Representative Office in your country of residence 

    • Apply for an e-Visa (click here for more information)

    • Provide the following documents: 

      • A passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Malaysia 

      • A recent passport-sized photo 

      • Details of your flight bookings, including return or onward travel 

 

You must also obtain a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) unless you are a citizen of Singapore, a diplomatic or official passport holder, or a Malaysian permanent resident. 

 

The Malaysian authorities do not tolerate illegal immigration. Overstaying your visa can result in fines, detention, deportation, or a ban from returning to Malaysia.
